Product Overview
Grande Utopia EM Evo is the flagship four-way passive loudspeaker in Focal's Utopia III Evo range. It combines a 40cm electromagnetic LF driver, 27cm low-mid, two 16.5cm MF drivers and a 27mm IAL2 pure-beryllium inverted-dome HF, with crossover frequencies at 80Hz, 220Hz and 2.3kHz.
Its vertically stacked section enclosures can be tilted through the Focus Time mechanism. The LF electromagnet uses an external power supply, while the OPC+ network provides stepped adjustment from the low-frequency region through the treble.

Design & Technology
Five drivers divided across four bands
From top to bottom, the driver order is 27cm low-mid, 16.5cm MF, 27mm HF, 16.5cm MF and 40cm LF. The system divides its bandwidth at 80Hz, 220Hz and 2.3kHz across four operating bands.
Mechanical alignment through Focus Time

The stacked enclosures tilt through a linked mechanism at the rear to aim the drivers toward the listening position. Focal calls this articulated structure Focus Time and provides adjustment references for 2.5m and 5m listening distances in the manual.
40cm EM LF powered by an external supply
The 40cm LF replaces a permanent magnet with an electromagnetic motor energized by a dedicated external supply. Focal specifies 1.75T flux density and a 34T·m force factor, with six supply settings spanning 9–90W.
W sandwich diaphragms and MF motors
The 40cm LF, 27cm low-mid and 16.5cm MF drivers use W sandwich diaphragms with a foam core between two glass layers. The 16.5cm MF drivers add TMD surrounds and NIC magnetic circuits; the 27cm low-mid uses a Multiferrite motor and the MF pair use Power Flower motors.
OPC+ adjustment from bass to treble
The four-way OPC+ network is distributed across three locations within the loudspeaker. Settings for bass, low-mid, midrange and treble combine to provide what Focal specifies as 1,458 adjustment combinations.
MRR baffle and Gamma Structure
The cabinet uses MDF panels up to 50mm thick, with Gamma Structure reinforcement positioned from vibration mapping. The MRR construction adds machined aluminium rings around the drivers to reinforce the front baffle.
