Product Overview

PMC6-2 is a three-way active nearfield/midfield monitor introduced by PMC in 2021. Two 150mm LF drivers, a 55mm soft-dome MF with N-compass waveguide and a 27mm soft-dome HF are mounted in a landscape enclosure containing a 2m Advanced Transmission Line (ATL).

Each LF driver receives 400W, with a further 400W for MF and 400W for HF, giving 1,600W total Class D amplification. DSP crossover and protection are integrated, and level, EQ, delay and presets can be managed from the rear controls or the browser-based SoundAlign interface. Analogue and AES3 inputs are provided.

Design & Technology

Dual LF with dedicated MF and HF

Each 150mm Studio6 LF driver has its own amplifier, while the 55mm PMC55 soft-dome MF and 27mm soft-dome HF operate in dedicated bands. Left- and right-hand enclosures mirror the driver and ATL-vent layout to form a symmetrical stereo pair.

PMC55 and N-compass waveguide

The 55mm soft-dome MF is surrounded by PMC's N-compass waveguide. PMC describes the arrangement as widening MF dispersion and working with the HF driver to provide a broad listening area and smooth in-room response.

Two-metre Advanced Transmission Line

A folded 2m acoustic line extends from the rear of the LF drivers through the enclosure, with damping material attenuating unwanted mid- and high-frequency energy inside the path. PMC uses the front outlet for low-frequency output and specifies response to 33Hz.

Front Laminair vents

The ATL terminates in two hexagonal Laminair vents on the front baffle. Internal fins manage airflow, and PMC describes the geometry as reducing turbulence and port noise at high output levels.

A 400W Class D amplifier is assigned to each of the two LF drivers, the MF and the HF. DSP handles crossover, driver protection, level, EQ and delay, with both analogue and AES3 input supported.

Browser-based SoundAlign configuration

Connecting the RJ45 port to a network enables per-monitor settings and presets to be managed through SoundAlign. Adding a PMC8-2 SUB and selecting XBD mode also supports a system configuration extending low-frequency response to 25Hz.
