Product Overview

MOYA M1 is Vivid Audio's flagship passive loudspeaker, launched in 2024. Eight 225mm LF drivers are mounted on the sides as four opposed pairs; together with two front-mounted 175mm lower-MF drivers, a 100mm MF, 50mm upper-MF and 26mm HF, the system uses thirteen drivers across five ways.

Each driver from HF through lower-MF is coupled to a tapered tube that absorbs rear radiation from the diaphragm. The enclosure is a vacuum-infused sandwich composite with carbon-reinforced balsa core, while a passive five-way crossover divides the operating bands.

Design & Technology

Five operating bands from HF to LF

A 26mm HF, 50mm upper-MF, 100mm MF, two 175mm lower-MF and eight 225mm LF drivers share the spectrum. Crossover frequencies are 125Hz, 550Hz, 1.7kHz and 4kHz, progressively assigning the range from high-excursion bass to treble to drivers of different sizes and construction.

Tapered tubes for rear-radiation control

HF, upper-MF, MF and lower-MF drivers are coupled to absorptive tubes with progressively tapered cross-sections. Vivid Audio describes these as absorbing rear radiation from each diaphragm and reducing reflections returning from behind the driver.

The eight 225mm LF drivers are arranged as four pairs facing opposite directions across the enclosure. By moving each opposed pair simultaneously in opposite directions, Vivid Audio uses the layout to cancel reaction forces transferred to the cabinet.

Bass reflex with tapered absorptive loading

The bass system is reflex-loaded and described in the manufacturer literature as incorporating an exponentially tapered tube. The multiple LF drivers, enclosure volume, absorptive path and port are combined as one low-frequency system.

Carbon-reinforced balsa-core sandwich construction

The enclosure is a vacuum-infused sandwich composite, placing a balsa core between carbon reinforcement layers. This construction forms the large, continuously curved shell from a combination of skins and lightweight core.

Five-way passive crossover

There is no internal amplifier or DSP; the input from an external amplifier is divided into five bands by the internal passive network. Nominal impedance is 5 ohms, with a 2.5-ohm minimum at 40Hz. Manufacturer-rated power handling is 3,000W music programme.
