Alex Koch, owner of Koch Sound in Kenai, Alaska, relies on Allen & Heath systems across a broad event workload. His relationship with the brand began nearly a decade ago with a GLD-80 and has developed into a workflow used for smaller community events as well as large outdoor festivals.
Koch Sound’s current inventory includes an Allen & Heath Avantis and a CQ-18T. For smaller productions, Koch often uses the CQ-18T because its compact footprint and streamlined workflow let him work without a dedicated front-of-house booth or tent, mixing from an iPad. At a recent EDM performance, he used the CQ-18T to manage a straightforward three-channel setup for DJ Buku.
At Homer HarborFest, Koch supplied his Avantis to the Anchorage-based sound company hired to provide the P.A., even though its engineer had not mixed on the platform before. Because Koch had attended Allen & Heath University training, he was comfortable teaching the console during the event, and the festival also included a touring-level Allen & Heath dLive presence when the headliner arrived with a CTi1500 system, placing two A&H consoles at front of house.
