The Midnight, the duo of Tim McEwan and Tyler Lyle, expands to a six-piece band for live work on the Time Machines tour. Recent routing has included China, Australia, India, and Europe, with a North American leg scheduled for September after a 23-date U.S. run that ended in May and included 2,000- to 3,000-seat venues such as Seattle’s Paramount Theatre and the Hollywood Palladium.
At front of house, TJ Elias mixed each night on a DiGiCo SD12, relying mostly on onboard effects while running Live Professor for selected vocal chains using tools such as Waves Doubler and Primary Source Expander. At stageside, Hamish Dickinson handled monitors on an Allen & Heath dLive, feeding in-ear mixes to 64 Audio, Ultimate Ears, and JH Audio earpieces, with Shure Axient Digital PSM operated in Analog FM Mode across eight frequencies for five band members, a guest, Dickinson, and a stage-right video tech, while the drummer was hardwired.
The input package shows how the tour balanced a record-like presentation with a working live band setup. Shure KSM9 capsules were used on wireless handhelds for Tyler Lyle and OBLVYN, sE V7s covered Oliver McEwan and Rhett Shull, saxophone was captured with a wireless Beta98 on a horn clip, two guitar cabinets were miked in stereo with sE V7X and sE8 microphones, and the drum setup combined Shure, Audix, AKG, sE, beyerdynamic, and Roland TM-6 elements within a control package supplied by LMG.
