Martin Audio’s WPC Wavefront Precision line arrays were deployed as the main system for the Live at Chelsea concert series, held in June at Royal Hospital Chelsea in London. The five-night run took place in Figure Court, a 17th-century courtyard designed by Sir Christopher Wren within the historic home of the Chelsea Pensioners. Audiences of more than 4,000 attended each evening, with artists including Holly Johnson, Blue, Sparks, The Proclaimers and The Beach Boys.
UK rental company 22live supplied the sound reinforcement, flying left and right hangs of 12 WPC cabinets per side for the main arrays. The system also used four Martin Audio WPS line array elements ground-stacked on grids as outfills, with six TORUS T1230 constant-curvature array elements handling front-fill coverage. Low-frequency support came from eight SXH218 dual-18-inch subwoofers in a castellated cardioid arrangement, with five cabinets facing forward and three facing backward, and Martin Audio iKON series amplifiers powered the system.
For 22live hire director Paul Timmins, the production combined outdoor conditions with the behavior of an all-seated audience area, including tiered seating around the sides and rear. The surrounding stone structures made reflection control and limiting unnecessary energy toward nearby buildings part of the system brief, alongside consistent coverage across the audience area. Across five nights with different headline artists and a broad range of musical styles, many acts brought their own engineers, and Timmins reported consistently positive feedback on the system.
