Chicago's Music Box Theatre has upgraded to Alcons Audio while preserving its 1929 interior. Cinema integrator Kinora worked around architectural constraints and the venue's organ to improve dialogue intelligibility and coverage without changing the room's visual identity.
The centre screen channel combines two CRA24N/90bi and one CRA24W/120bi system. Left and right each use four QR24 line-source columns with QB242 low-frequency extensions, plus two CB362 dual-18-inch subwoofers. Sentinel10 and Director6 units provide amplification and control.
The side arrays are colour-matched to the interior, while the centre and subs occupy an alcove behind the screen. Controlled directivity limits energy on historic surfaces and supports an unusually wide programme, from early mono optical tracks to current releases and 70mm epics.
