Charis Christian Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado operates a 1,500-seat sanctuary inside a building that was formerly a warehouse. That architectural history contributed to excessive slapback echo in the auditorium, while the project also had to address uneven sound coverage and significant stage bleed. DAS Audio, Sound Productions and integrator Luxe AVL developed a system specifically for the room.
The installation is based on DAS Audio’s Event Series. The main left/right system uses 16 Event-28A dual 8-inch line array speakers, with eight Event-26A compact dual 6-inch line array speakers serving as outfills. Low-frequency reinforcement comes from four Event-118A single 18-inch subwoofers flown in a center end-fire configuration, supported by two ground-supported Event-218A dual 18-inch subwoofers. System processing is handled by an Integral-M88 processor with Dante, controlled through DAS Audio’s ALMA Control software.
Luxe AVL used laser scanning to create a virtual model of the sanctuary and refine speaker placement and system performance. According to the article, the additional headroom from the DAS system helped with long-running issues around choir microphones, pastor intelligibility and feedback management. The project was also aimed at improving consistency and quality for both in-room worship and livestream audio.
