Billionaire St. Moritz has opened as an entertainment venue connected to the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains in Switzerland. WSDG published details on August 13 of the structural-isolation, room-acoustic and electroacoustic work needed to run live performance and club programming within a building surrounded by hotel accommodation.

The design centres on a room-within-a-room built around a new reinforced-concrete shell rather than relying on the original masonry. WSDG says the decoupling was tuned for very low frequencies, applying methods from its recording-studio work. Isolation layers on the walls and ceiling are 25cm thick.

Large existing windows received 22mm inner panes intended to bring their isolation closer to the gypsum walls. The ceiling stacks several acoustic materials, and decoupled aerial-rigging points connect directly to the concrete structure. That extends vibration control beyond the room surfaces to the load-bearing paths used by productions.

A d&b sound system, Yamaha mixing console and Crestron control platform form the audio and control chain. The room also incorporates a 35-square-metre AOTO LED wall at greater than 4K resolution, stacked Epson projectors for holographic effects, 34 JB-Lighting fixtures and Sennheiser wireless microphones.

WSDG says the result can handle material ranging from delicate vocals to bass-heavy music without compromising the adjoining hotel. MONDO-DR does not publish post-completion isolation or room-acoustic measurements, so that performance claim cannot be quantified from the report. The documented scope is nevertheless unusually complete, covering windows, rigging points and internal construction as parts of the same isolation system.
