Veteran FOH engineer Dan Hallas is currently using AUDIX microphones while mixing P.O.D. on arena dates. His career in live sound began after a 1989 tour as a backline technician for The Call, and his credits include artists across hard rock, jazz, world, and folk music.
His current AUDIX selection includes the OMX-T dynamic vocal microphone, D6X dynamic kick drum mic, D4 on guitar cabinets, MicroD miniature condensers on toms, i5 microphones on the top and bottom of snare, and SCX1 condensers as cymbal overheads. The D6X is used for its adjustable kick-drum voicing, while the MicroD clips directly to drums to avoid larger stand setups.
Hallas also tested a prototype of the AUDIX D6 while working the 2002 Ozzfest tour with P.O.D. and Drowning Pool. For a band such as P.O.D., which relies entirely on in-ear monitors, he frames microphone consistency and stage rejection as practical parts of keeping the musicians’ monitor mixes stable from night to night.
