Michael Franti & Spearhead’s short summer run used Waves LV1 Classic and Waves eMo IEM at monitors, with Lucas Pinzón creating individually spatialized in-ear mixes for the musicians. The run concluded at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and was the first time the Franti camp had toured an immersive in-ear setup.
Pinzón ran the LV1 Classic in its full 80-stereo-channel configuration with 64 inputs in use. Waves eMo IEM, the SoundGrid-based immersive IEM mixing engine, operated inside the same LV1 environment, allowing monitor mixes to be built with position as part of the mix design.
The production began under compressed conditions: the band had not played together in six months, the crew was meeting for the first time, and a show was added before rehearsals were scheduled to begin. Pinzón used presets and a defined mixing logic, placing key sources such as bass, sub Moog, kick, hi-hat, and Carl Young’s vocal up front in the bassist’s mix while arranging other elements in additional spatial layers.
