CODA Audio published details on August 5 of the installed system at a new indoor arena within Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre in China's Guizhou province. The 80,000-square-metre building seats 12,000 and is intended for international sport, ceremonies and large entertainment productions.
Zhejiang Tongbo Vision Technology designed and installed the system. Its principal loudspeaker is the three-way APS arrayable point source, with 48 cabinets deployed around the venue. Twenty-four dual-12-inch HOPS12i-Pro systems and four G515 two-way loudspeakers complete the coverage, all supported by CODA Audio LINUS DSP amplification.
The permanent system has to move between live commentary, background music, opening ceremonies and full-scale performance. Tongbo's brief called for consistent speech clarity at every seat during noisy sporting events, while retaining the low-frequency extension and output required for music and entertainment.
The arena opened with six days of AIBA World Cup Boxing and more than 200 bouts. Management had planned to supplement the installation with temporary PA from other brands for the opening ceremony, but cancelled that hire after hearing the installed system the day before the event. Tongbo then supported the CODA system throughout the programme.
Large venues often bring in separate reinforcement packages for individual productions. Guiyang's approach is to cover sport, ceremony and concert requirements with one permanent platform, reducing repeated transport, setup and commissioning. The operational consolidation is as central to the project as the scale of the loudspeaker inventory.
