Two recent DJ shows at ZAW in Nantes, France were supported by a sound reinforcement system using HK Audio LINEAR 5 MK2 loudspeakers. The venue operates as a bar, cafe, restaurant and performance space, and the shows featured a lineup that included DJ Fly, Beat Torrent, Freddy Jay and J.Moses.
The main system comprised two LINEAR 5 MK2 308 LTA loudspeakers and four LINEAR 5 MK2 118 Sub HPA subwoofers, with the subs deployed in cardioid mode. Two LINEAR 5 MK2 112 FA loudspeakers were placed on top of the subs as DJ monitors, while the 308 LTA’s asymmetrical 60-degree, +5/-25-degree opening was used to keep sound away from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
ZAW is built around live music, with Sunday jazz brunches, monthly electric nights, a central stage, a DJ booth and a defined audience area, but its large windows create an acoustic challenge. HK Audio’s Thomas Garin said the four high-output 18-inch subs were arranged in a 1:1 cardioid configuration, supporting kick energy for the crowd while leaving the DJs mainly with monitor sound behind the turntables.
