Wave Church in Virginia Beach has replaced the mono reinforcement system in its 2,500-seat auditorium with an L-Acoustics L-ISA design. The room wraps close to 180 degrees and offers limited trim height, a combination that had produced dead areas, uneven levels, and useful stereo imaging only near the centre.
Five L2D arrays make up the Scene system. Four extension hangs each combine three A10i Focus cabinets with one A10 Wide, while A15i arrays provide the outer fills. The shallow L2D enclosure was central to the design because it could deliver the required output without blocking sightlines to the video surfaces.
Nine KS28 subwoofers are flown in three central cardioid hangs. With L-ISA treating sources as objects, the mix can preserve a stronger relationship between a sound and its position on stage across more of the fan-shaped seating. The project is a useful example of immersive reinforcement solving a room-layout problem rather than being added as a visual effect.
