Undertone Audio has released the MPEQ-1 super-parametric saturation equalizer plugin, moving one of its hardware designs into software for the first time. The plugin is aimed at mixing and mastering engineers and is presented as combining the original unit’s sound and flexibility with additional creative tools.

Each EQ band has its own saturation control, so users can shape frequency balance and harmonic character band by band. The plugin can be controlled through digital parameter controls or through a graphic recreation of the hardware, and it recreates the hardware’s curves, workflows, filters, Q control, and Vari-Phase mode across four super-parametric bands.

The software version also adds full recall, automation, instant A/B comparison, and integrated spectrum analysis. It is available from Undertone Audio’s website for $149, including the plugin license, factory preset library, and free updates.
