Violet Audio has released the DX16B and io44 for carrying balanced analogue audio across Cat5e or Cat6 cable. This is not an audio-over-IP system; it uses the twisted pairs as a passive multichannel analogue transport.

DX16B handles splitting and cable organisation, while io44 creates four-channel connection points. No power, clock, software, or conversion is involved, and the signals connect to conventional microphone preamps and mixers as analogue audio.

Using Ethernet-type cable without Ethernet is the key distinction. There is no codec delay or sample rate, and troubleshooting remains largely electrical, although installations must prevent accidental connection to network hardware. The system targets temporary production and analogue facilities that want less copper bulk.
