As-Syafaah mosque in Sembawang, Singapore, has adopted an Extron-based AV system as part of a renovation covering the building’s four levels. The project was designed by UnitedVenus Engineering Services and installed by Maxxmedia International, with the brief centred on modernising video distribution, streaming and control in a 4,000-capacity worship facility.
At the centre of the system is an Extron DXP HD 4K PLUS matrix switcher routing signals from PTZ cameras, PCs, microphones and audio mixers. Six DTP HD DA 4K 330 distribution amplifiers extend content over twisted-pair cable to 24 DTP HDMI 4K 330 receivers, feeding 14 displays and 10 projectors in reception areas, prayer halls, classrooms and the main auditorium. DVS 605 scalers and DTP HDMI 4K 330 transmitters and receivers support wider signal distribution, while an SMP 351 H.264 Streaming Media Processor with Dual Recording LinkLicense enables Friday prayers and sermons to be sent to monitors, overflow rooms and online platforms such as Facebook, with two independent video sources recorded at the same time.
Control is handled by an IPCP Pro 550 xi in the main AV control room and an IPCP Pro 350 xi for the AV sub-distribution system. TouchLink Pro touchpanels placed throughout the mosque, including a 12-inch Tabletop TouchLink Pro in the control room, allow non-technical staff to manage video layouts, picture-in-picture, PTZ cameras, routing and audio presets. An EBP 100 six-button wall-mounted eBUS panel also controls the main hall’s motorised blinds, giving the venue a practical operating layer for daily prayers, overflow viewing and recorded access for congregants.
