fedDSP has announced the release of OPTO, a four-mode optical compressor plugin. The processor is presented as an optical compressor designed for smooth gain reduction, musical movement and a finished tone.
The four modes change the compressor’s behavior, feel, character, program-dependent settings, saturation and overall response. Mode three is the faster and more forward option, mode two is slower and warmer with a vintage character, mode one is smoother and more polished with a hi-fi leaning, and mode zero is the cleanest and most modern setting. OPTO also includes DRIVE, TRAFO, DETAIL, CLARITY, TONE and DEPTH, while the advanced settings add high-pass and low-pass filters, a parallel mix knob, dual mono/stereo modes, auto gain and a variable side-chain HPF.
The plugin is specified for zero-latency operation and low CPU use, supporting tracking as well as large sessions. Its offline-first licensing system requires no dongle or internet connection after installation, and keyboard shortcuts are included for workflow speed. OPTO is available now at an introductory price of £35 before moving to £75 after August 6, 2026, with a free trial also offered.
